Veganuary & the Vegan Diet: Make the Switch
While you may know about No-Shave November and Dry January, a new year calls to embrace newer trends – or rediscover old ones.
What is Veganuary?
Initiated by a U.K. non-profit organization back in 2014, “Veganuary” asked for people to join in the challenge of going Vegan for a month.
What does it mean to go vegan? Easy; to switch to all things animal-free, especially diet.
Opting for a plant-based and healthy diet of veganism presents health and happiness!
How to Switch to Veganism?
If you wish to adopt Veganism as a lifestyle, instead of only following it for the month of January – follow these tips:
Tip #1: Start Small
Nobody becomes a vegan on Day 1 of following the diet. If you wish to adopt such healthy diet as your lifestyle, it is essential to break it in slowly.
Begin with Vegan Days when you only consume animal-free products, or start smaller by healthy, fruit-based snacks such as munching on classic banana bread slices.
Tip #2: Substitute Wisely
You don’t need to reduce your appetite to adopt the vegan life. Instead, substitute your needs with something equally nutritious and flavorful. For example, you can replace butter with similar non-dairy options or use coconut oil.
Similarly, soy milk, almond or coconut can make for your milk consumption. I love using these to bake with too.
Tip #3: Keep the Junk Food – Healthy and Vegan
If you think your munching food is already vegan; think again. There are many potato crisps that come with animal-based ingredients. Not to forget, the ever-favorite on-the-go snack: Dairy Ice cream.
Once you go vegan, you have to eliminate such munchies from your diet and instead go for healthier snacks like a pack of Chocolate Walnut Banana Bread Slices or the delicious Vegan and Gluten-Free Coconut & Lemon Energy bars.
Tip #4: Keep an Eye on the Label
If you were not used to reading the ingredients and nutrition label before; you will have to start now. Not many products come with a “Vegan” banner on top, and thus you must familiarize yourself with vegan ingredients so you can make the right purchase decision on your next grocery run.
